AN
INTRODUCTION BY
HANSHI
ANTHONY (TONY) JACKSON O.A.M.
10th Dan (Awarded on 14th Sept. 2003)
It
is with great respect and humility that I present to the general
populace the system of Karate-do which has been the whole
being of my life since 1949.
Welcome to the Karate of the
Shuri Ken Shorin Ryu as taught by the venerated Master Hanashiro
Chomo of Shuri City in Okinawa.
During these past 54 years of
Karate-do training, I have learned a great deal about life,
honour, respect and the 'Way' of the masters as I hope they
would have wished. There have been various 'breaks' of short
terms in this period caused by medical conditions as can be
expected as we get older in years.
Now at the age of 66 years I
feel that my learning, knowledge and training in many spheres
of the arts (including medical experiences) have helped me
overcome many obstacles along the path that each and everyone
of us is placed upon.
I am hoping, that this web site
will assist many people in the aspects of history of many
styles as passed down to me along the way from Okinawa, and
that the knowledge gained from me over the past, present and
future years of my life will be beneficial to those who seek
'The Way' as I did.
Now I can proceed in peace and
Harmony towards the future and make many, many friends and
associates around Australia and the globe before my time is
up.
Thank you to those who have
shown care and consideration to learn from me the special
aspects of my teaching and hope that you will pass this on,
as was my intention of teaching you these special techniques
not known in your lifetime before.
All information supplied herewithin

IDEALS
OF SHURI KEN
The year of secrecy of teaching
Okinawan Karate has gone and the open-door policy is here,
so we should abandon the policy of keep Karate an Okinawan
secret, and open it to the world, therefore, the source of
Budo is God's love, the spirit of living protection for all
beings.
True Budo is to accept the spirit
of the Universe, to keep the peace of the World, and to correctly
produce, protect and cultivate all beings in nature.
Karate is not to be as stiff
as a mighty Oak tree, but to be relaxed and bending like the
Willow of Bamboo, always training your body and mind, prepared
for the unexpected. There is a legend that the principle of
karate was based on the saying "there is a first move
in karate". But in real life this discipline is not enforced
much. As time went by, the principle of instruction was altered.
Now we abandon the principle:-
body first, spirit second; technique first, personality second,
and now emphasize 'KENZEN ITCHI' - hand and Zen altogether,
which suggest the training in spirit, character and personality
first, body second.
Always study and train with an
open mind, never cluttered on thoughts of great achievement
or prowess. With the mind open and free you will see the world
around you like a great garden, and experience feeling of
great joy, peace and happiness. In this way you will learn
many things and be aware, whereby, being tense and rigid in
your training your world will be closed and you will learn
little.
Ideals and philosophy by:-
Grandmaster's Chomo Hanashiro and Dr. Heihatiro Okada.
Since the beginning of time good has battled
evil.
Light has struggled for supremacy over darkness.
It is the inescapable destiny of the good to give their lives
in the battle against evil.
Likewise, it is the fate of the evil to die attempting to
overthrow goodness.
That is how it always has been, and that is how it always
will be until the end ot eternity.
YING YANG SAGA
Outside the silent village the Samuari stands
like a rock.
The night is dark and silent, his ears see where his eyes
cannot.
Nearby in the darkness a silent shadows flits.
The Samuari strains his senses, honed to a razor edge.
To protect the village with his life is his solid pledge.
There's a wisper in the dark, the Samuari
whirls and ducks.
In the wood above his head a Shaken quivers, stuck.
With a hiss of steel his sword is drawn, he's ready for the
fight.
Giving a demon yell, the black clad Ninja detaches from the
night.
The Samuari and dark-night warrior do battle for the prize.
Whilst behind the walls the village sleeps, neath heavy lidded
eyes.
The Samurai's strike is lightning fast, his
blade moves swift as thought.
But the Ninja unleashes a Manrikigusari and the flashing blade
is caught.
The sword is locked in a grip of steel, spirit blade against
serpent chain.
With a burst of demonic strength and a devilish cry,
The ninja sends the sword and chain hurtling through the sky.
Reacting as fast as a snake the Ninja whirls
a rope,
And the cruel hook of the Shogi Knife wraps around the Samurai's
throat.
A hook bites deep, a fang of fire, the Samurai starts to choke.
Then with a bursting heart and gasping for breath he grabs
hold of the rope.
He draws a TANTO from his belt and gives the roap a heave.
Catches the gloating Ninja off guard, and brings him to his
knees.
Through a haze of blood and pain the Samurai
lunges fast.
A blade sinks in, a hook bites deep. Yin and Yang breath their
last.
The sun rises, the villagers wake.
They open the great gate.
They gasp in shock and offer prayers when they see their protectors
fate.
The golden warrior lies upon the churned up turf.
Beside him lies the shadow whose heart his blade did burst.
So black and white have met again to fight the endless war.
But the eternal battle cannot be won, and must be fought forever
more.
